Earlier this September, Volkswagen gave the 2024 ID.4 some serious upgrades. ID.4 models with the larger 82-kWh battery pack arrived with more power thanks to new electric motors, an updated interior design, and new features. At the time, VW claimed that the new electric motors would improve the SUV’s range, but didn’t provide any estimates. Thanks to the EPA, we now know that the 2024 ID.4 is rated at up to 291 miles of range.

Previously, ID.4 Pro rear-wheel-drive models with the larger 82-kWh battery pack were rated at up to 275 miles. Now, the EPA rating for the 2024 ID.4 Pro with RWD is 291 miles. That represents a drastic increase of 16 miles.

Range for ID.4 Pro all-wheel drive models has also gone up. These models were previously rated at up to 255 miles and are now rated by the EPA to get up to 263 miles. This represents an increase of eight miles.

The increased range makes the 2024 ID.4 far more competitive in the EV landscape. With up to 275 miles of range, the ID.4 fell behind competitors. Now that the ID.4 has 291 miles of range, it gets closer to the 300-mile mark that most shoppers are looking for.

Compared to rivals, the ID.4 continues to have more range than the Subaru Solterra (228 miles), Chevrolet Bolt EUV (247 miles), Toyota bZ4X (252 miles), Kia Niro Electric (258 miles), and Hyundai Kona Electric (258 miles). With the range increase, the ID.4 gets closer to the Hyundai IONIQ 5 (303 miles), Nissan Ariya (304 miles), Kia EV6 (310 miles), Ford Mustang Mach-E (312 miles), and Tesla Model Y (330 miles).

In September, Volkswagen fitted more powerful electric motors to ID.4 models with the larger 82-kWh battery pack. The new electric motor increased power from 201 horsepower to 282 hp. Dual-motor ID.4 models went from 295 hp to 330 hp. Additionally, these ID.4 models also received a larger 12.9-inch infotainment screen, updated steering wheel and shifter designs, and more standard features.

VW still hasn’t announced pricing for the 2024 ID.4 yet, but with the EPA’s official fuel economy ratings being announced, we’re sure that information will arrive shortly.
